The Department of Neurosciences at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) invites applications for a postdoctoral position in MRI Signal Processing. A successful applicant will join an interdisciplinary collaboration of faculty, staff, and students who are applying MRI to several related research studies in neuroscience and neurology, with an emphasis on Alzheimer's disease and aging. The main responsibilities for this position are the analysis of MRI data acquired from several ongoing projects, including the development of computational methods and software tools, along with the preparation of manuscripts for publication. Advanced diffusion MRI methods will constitute the core of the analysis activities, which will be overseen by Drs. Andreana Benitez and Jens Jensen.
The applicant must have a PhD or equivalent degree in neuroscience, computer science, bioengineering, electrical engineering, mathematics, physics, or allied field. A strong background in scientific programming and signal processing is essential, including proficiency with MATLAB. Prior MRI and image analysis is preferable. The position will be offered commensurate with experience. Applicants who prefer to work remotely will be considered.
MUSC's Department of Neuroscience is ranked 11th in NIH funding among all neuroscience departments. MRI research at MUSC is conducted at the Center for Biomedical Imaging, which operates a research-dedicated 3T Prisma scanner for human imaging and a 7T Bruker BioSpec scanner for preclinical imaging. MUSC is located in historic Charleston, South Carolina, which enjoys a mild climate, beautiful beaches, and many cultural amenities. In 2020, it was ranked as the best city in the US by Travel and Leisure magazine.
