About This Position

The Department of Physiology and Biophysics at the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine, in Miami, Florida, has an exciting opportunity for a Postdoctoral Associate, working in the field of sensory neurobiology in the laboratory of Prof. Stephen Roper. The project will involve sophisticated new methodologies that combine in vivo confocal Ca imaging with molecular biological approaches from a collaborating laboratory. The goal is to study how the nervous system encodes taste signals, using mice as a model system (e.g., see Dvoryanchikov et al, 2017, Nature communications, 8, 1-16; Roper and Chaudhari, 2017, Nature Reviews Neuroscience, 18, 485-497).

Minimum Qualifications

Ph.D. or other doctoral degree in a science related field of study. Preference will be given to candidates with prior experience either in cellular neurophysiology (microelectrode or patch clamp recordings) or in functional imaging at the cellular level (e.g., Fura2, GCaMP imaging) and publications/presentations vouching for this experience.  The successful candidate will be expected, in collaboration with and training by Dr. Roper, to conduct experiments; maintain a laboratory notebook; analyze data using ImageJ, MatLab, Excel, and related software; present research seminars; and write reports/publications. The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute actively to group discussions at lab meetings and be cognizant of responsible conduct in research. Skill in collecting, organizing, and analyzing data. Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems. Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions.
