WORK ENVIRONMENT
An Adjunct Professor//Postdoctoral Associate position is available in the BLINK Lab, under the direction of Dr. Javier Medina, Associate Professor in the Department of Neuroscience at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas.
https://www.bcm.edu/people-search/javier-medina-26564

Located in the heart of the largest Medical Center in the world, the BLINK Lab provides a dynamic, collaborative research environment that brings together scientists with a wide range of backgrounds in computational neuroscience, quantitative analysis of behavior, and in vivo electrophysiology.

The applicant will join an experienced team of BLINK Lab investigators, working together to decipher the way that the algorithms underlying supervised learning are implemented in the brain, and developing artificial neural networks to test these algorithms in real-world applications. Experimental approaches in the BLINK Lab often combine advanced tools in artificial intelligence and machine learning with state-of-the-art technology for optogenetic manipulation and large-scale visualization of activity in specific neuron populations of the mouse brain.

JOB DESCRIPTION
The applicant will work on a project recently funded by the NIH BRAIN Initiative, collecting and analyzing high-density spike data recorded with Neuropixels probes implanted in the brain of mice performing supervised learning tasks. With nearly 1,000 switchable sensors positioned along a shaft thinner than a human hair, Neuropixels probes provide an unparalleled opportunity to simultaneously record the activity of hundreds of neurons distributed across multiple brain areas.

QUALIFICATIONS
The applicant must have a strong quantitative background, and have performed, or at least be familiar with, electrophysiological recording experiments (in vivo or in vitro), and analysis of spike data including spike-sorting software. Knowledge of Matlab (or other programming languages like Python or Igor) is required. Additional experience with mouse surgery and behavior is desirable, but not required.

Competitive salary offered based on level of experience (minimum $55K; maximum $80K).
