The Salling lab is pleased to announce that an NIH funded postdoctoral position is available in the Department of Cell Biology and Anatomy at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans, Louisiana. We are looking for a highly motivated and collaborative individual who has an interest in investigating how drugs and alcohol affect the adolescent brain with a focus on the latent development of the frontal cortex. Postdoctoral training opportunities will include operant self-administration, touchscreen based learning and memory tasks, in-vivo circuit manipulation, activity-dependent labeling of neurons, and patch-clamp electrophysiology in brain slices. The incumbent in this position will work under the supervision of Dr. Michael Salling with opportunities for additional training and mentoring available in collaborating labs across basic science departments. The Salling lab is affiliated with the Comprehensive Alcohol Research Center and Alcohol & Drug Abuse Center for Excellence providing multiple tracts for career development in the field of neuroscience and addiction studies.

Qualifications:  Ph.D. in Neuroscience, Pharmacology, Physiology or related field of study.
Preferred Qualifications:  Experience in alcohol research, in vivo or in vitro electrophysiology, and/or behavior analysis.

The Department of Cell Biology and Anatomy has a history of strong commitment to the various missions of the LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans– research, education and service. The department is actively involved in the teaching of many courses in the Schools of Medicine, Dentistry, Allied Health, Nursing and Graduate Studies. The research programs of the department have greatly expanded over the past several years through the hiring of faculty who have expertise in the areas of cell and molecular biology, developmental biology, electrophysiology and neurobiology. Within the department are several core equipment research facilities which support investigators within the department and the rest of the LSUHSC. Some of the current research programs among others within the department are: studies of receptor, channel, and membrane properties of neurons; cellular and behavioral function of the visual system; brain development and plasticity; developmental biology; and computer imaging technology used to study human embryonic development.
