The Alzheimer’s Drug Discovery Foundation (ADDF) has experienced significant revenue growth over the past several years. As a result, the Foundation has created a new full-time role of Senior Director for Drug Development.  This person will be a mid-career neuroscientist seeking to accelerate the development of late stage preclinical and clinical stage drug development for Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. As part of a venture philanthropy that funds academic and biotechnology programs, this role will provide leadership, oversight and management to ADDF’s drug development research portfolio and related strategic partnerships. The Senior Director for Drug Development will manage a team of neuroscientists and report directly to the Founding Executive Director and Chief Science Officer.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with the Chief Science Officer to provide strategic direction, program planning, progress oversight and attainment of shared goals and milestones of the ADDF late stage preclinical drug discovery and clinical stage drug development (“Core”) program.
    • Lead a team of ADDF neuroscientists dedicated to ADDF’s Core program.
    • Provide thought leadership and management of the Foundation’s portfolio of Core programs for Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias.
    • Proactively search and identify promising academic and biotech investment opportunities, such as meeting with academic and biotechnology investigators, attending scientific conferences, mining scientific and patent literature, and connecting with key opinion leaders.
    • Provide guidance on due diligence and evaluation of academic and biotechnology Core proposals
  • Facilitate collaboration within the ADDF teams as well as ADDFs external partnership programs with other foundations, government and industry.
    • Facilitate the formation of interdisciplinary drug development teams through a network of ADDF consultants, collaborators, and partnerships.
  • As required, participate in the development and publication of peer-reviewed scientific publications, conference meeting reports, and other related Core program materials for the Foundation.


This position requires a PhD in a relevant biomedical discipline. The ideal candidate will have:

  • A minimum of 10 years of drug discovery and clinical drug development experience in neuroscience or neurology from the pharmaceutical industry or a combination of industry and academia/nonprofit. Specific experience in the field of Alzheimer’s disease is strongly preferred.
  • Experience in conceptualizing, designing, conducting, analyzing and reporting clinical trials is required. A focus and receptiveness to scientific risk and innovative thinking will be an important asset.
  • Proven experience leading and motivating diverse teams of scientists and clinical trialists,  and delivering high quality data for preclinical and clinical studies.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work closely and collaboratively with partner organizations, key opinion leaders, donors, and across all ADDF departments.
  • Excellent oral communications and writing skills with demonstrated ability to communicate to both scientific and lay audiences.
  • Exceptional project and time management skills with the ability to manage competingrequests and shifting deadlines.

The position is located in midtown Manhattan, New York and will require on-site availability post Covid-19. Compensation will be commensurate with experience. A generous benefits package is included with compensation.
