The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS), a component of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), is seeking exceptional candidates for the position of Deputy Director, Division of Neuroscience. The Division of Neuroscience (DON) oversees NINDS’s largest extramural research portfolio spanning basic neuroscience and mechanisms of neurological disease, discovery of therapeutic targets and proof of concept studies to reduce the burden of neurological disease and conditions worldwide.  DON staff oversee a base research portfolio with an annual budget of over $1 billion in grants and over $6 million in R&D contracts. The DON Deputy will work with the DON Associate Director in coordinating neuroscience research within DON and with two other extramural science Divisions – the Division of Translational Research and the Division of Clinical Research.  The Deputy Director will also work with the Associate Director to coordinate efforts with the Division of Extramural Activities which oversees scientific review, grants management, research integrity and rigor and training and diversity programs. Qualifications: This individual should have expertise as a neuroscientist (Ph.D. or M.D. level) and extensive experience as an extramural executive such as a research administrator.  S/he should have demonstrated leadership ability and organizational skills and the ability to collaborate with researchers and other stakeholders in the neuroscience community. S/he should have experience in developing and setting strategic priorities, communicating and promoting scientific policies, managing human and financial resources and budgetary planning.  The applicant should be known and respected within the neuroscience community.
