Postdoctoral position – Contet laboratory – Molecular and Circuit Mechanisms of Alcohol Dependence
A postdoctoral position is available for a recent Ph.D. graduate to join the Contet laboratory and study the neurobiological mechanisms of alcohol dependence. Previous experience with mouse behavior, stereotaxic surgeries, histology, and molecular biology is desirable. Programming skills (MATLAB, R) would be advantageous. A high degree of self-motivation, meticulousness, critical thinking, efficient communication, and integrity are expected.
The Contet laboratory investigates the proteins and neural circuits that are dysregulated by chronic alcohol exposure and their contribution to excessive drinking and other symptoms of alcohol dependence (www.contetlab.com). Our experimental approach combines mouse behavioral analysis with contemporary methods for the quantification and manipulation of gene/protein expression and in vivo neuronal activity. Our current NIH-funded projects address the role of parasubthalamic CRF neurons, microtubule remodeling, and BK channel-mediated molecular adaptations in alcohol dependence phenotypes. The selected candidate will work on any or all of these projects depending on interests, skills, and efficiency, and will be encouraged to develop new research directions.
The Contet laboratory is part of The Scripps Research Institute Department of Molecular Medicine (La Jolla, CA), Pearson Center for Alcoholism and Addiction Research, TSRI Alcohol Research Center, and TSRI Neuropsychopharmacology Training Program, which provide unique opportunities for multidisciplinary collaborations and outstanding resources for integrative training in the alcohol/drug addiction field.
