Tenure-track Faculty Position in Medical Education Department of Medical Education Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth

The Department of Medical Education at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth seeks applicants in the field of neuroscience to join the Tenure-track/Tenured Faculty Line (Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, Professor).  Established in 2016, the Department is the academic home to a team of multidisciplinary faculty that are fully dedicated to innovation and excellence in the delivery of undergraduate medical education.  It supports the overall mission of the medical school to train compassionate physicians who possess outstanding clinical skills, a deep understanding of the scientific basis of health and disease, and proficiency in delivering care within complex social and economic environments. Aligning with Geisel’s commitment to transformative medical education, the undergraduate medical education (UME) curriculum was restructured to optimize integration of the foundational sciences longitudinally.  Key to this new curriculum has been the establishment of medical scholars in the Department who design, deliver, and evaluate curricular offerings in specific disciplines of basic science, and who are expected to excel in this charge by their concomitant commitment to medical education research and scholarship.

We seek outstanding applicants with demonstrated expertise in the field of neuroscience, who possess outstanding teaching skills and the ability to integrate broad aspects of neuroscience into a curriculum focused on the understanding of  human health and disease.  Individuals with combined expertise in areas of physiology/endocrinology/histology or pharmacology may be preferred.  We seek applicants who will also pursue education research, although prior scholarship in this field is not required.  Optimal candidates will thus be expected to have or demonstrate the capacity to develop a self-directed field of inquiry/research related to innovations in medical education or to the integration of neuroscience into pedagogical practices.

Dartmouth is highly committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive population of students, faculty, and staff. We are especially interested in applicants who are able to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff from all backgrounds, including but not limited to: racial and ethnic minorities, women, individuals who identify with LGBTQ+ communities, veterans, individuals with disabilities, individuals from lower income backgrounds, and/or first-generation college graduates.

Candidates should hold a PhD, MD, MD/PhD, or equivalent degree. Applicants should upload a cover letter, a curriculum vitae (candidates should not include impact factors in their CV bibliographies), a statement summarizing their research accomplishments, a statement summarizing their commitment to teaching and to innovation in teaching, and a statement of how their teaching, research, service, and/or life experiences prepare them to advance Dartmouth’s commitments to diversity, equity, and inclusion.  The cover letter (no more than one page) should summarize the impact and importance of their past research (in neuroscience and/or pedagogy); include a statement on how their efforts in all areas (research/scholarship, teaching, engagement) will be of benefit to the Geisel/Dartmouth academic community; and include a statement of how Dartmouth/Geisel/the Department or Center will be of benefit to their academic program/aspirations.

Candidates should also ask three referees to provide letters of recommendation. Application materials should be uploaded at:  http://apply.interfolio.com/73619. Application review will begin March 23, 2020 and continue until the position is filled.
