Postdoctoral Fellow (Fleming Lab)
This is a postdoctoral position in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences in the laboratory of Sheila Fleming, Ph.D. Responsibilities include conducting basic science experiments in the field of exercise and Parkinson’s disease; presenting research results in oral and written formats; developing and maintaining knowledge of the current scientific literature. Operates highly independently. May supervise graduate students, professional student externs, and staff employees. This fellowship will last 1 year with the possibility for renewal on a yearly basis.

Principal Functional Responsibilities
1. Devise and perform new protocols and techniques for research projects and have a willingness to learn new methods and approaches of problem-solving.
2. Prepare reports and present research findings at national and international meetings.
3. Consults with faculty on projects and provides guidance to students, instructs and trains students and research staff in established techniques and procedures.
4. Oversees the maintenance of laboratory, equipment and supplies, as well as safety & animal regulations.
5) Perform other duties as assigned
- Education/Degrees: Ph.D., or expected Ph.D. by time of appointment, in neuroscience, biological sciences, psychology, or related fields.
- Experience: Research experience obtained via doctorate studies that include working with rodent models of neurological disease and experience using a spectrum of laboratory techniques that encompass behavioral and molecular approaches.

Must have experience in or be willing to learn how to perform: rodent behavioral studies including exercise, motor and cognitive testing, general handling and working with rodents (mice and rats) including but not limited to mouse breeding, genotyping, anesthesia, injections, and tissue collection for histology. Must have experience or be willing to learn techniques for neural tissue dissection, protein purification and detection, Western blotting, ELISA, qPCR, immunohistochemistry, microscopy, and other duties assigned for individual projects.
Must be able to utilize applicable equipment necessary for the job, as well as basic office equipment. While performing the duties of the job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, reach, stoop, kneel, sit; talk; and hear. Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
