ELECTROPHYSIOLOGIST/NEUROBIOLOGIST (BOSTON UNIVERSITY)
We are seeking an experienced electrophysiologist to fill a joint position in the laboratories of Drs. Mikel Garcia-Marcos and David Harris in the Department of Biochemistry at Boston University.
The candidates would be appointed at the level of Postdoctoral Researcher or Research Scientist depending on prior experience.
We are looking for candidates with experience in electrophysiological techniques applied to neuronal systems. Proficiency in patch-clamp recording of neurons in cultures and in slice preparations is essential. We seek to identify candidates highly motivated to work independently as well as in team-based projects. It is essential that the candidate has excellent organization and communication skills. Experience with some or all of the following approaches related to neurobiological research will also be positively evaluated: culture of primary or iPSC-derived neurons, mouse husbandry, viral gene delivery systems, and fluorescence microscopy.
The Harris and Garcia-Marcos laboratories have distinct but overlapping research interests. Both laboratories have an interest in neurological signaling processes that underlay human diseases including neurodegenerative disorders, epilepsies, chronic pain, and cognitive decline. The focus of the Harris laboratory is on Alzheimer’s and prion diseases, and the focus of the Garcia-Marcos laboratory is on G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs). The two PI’s share an open laboratory space including two fully equipped electrophysiology suites.
The atmosphere is highly collaborative and multidisciplinary. The successful candidate will interact on a daily basis with a vibrant research community with diverse interests and with ample opportunities to interact with other researchers beyond the host laboratories. There will be strong commitment to the career development of the candidate, with abundant dedicated time with mentors and with opportunities to acquire or improve specific skills. For example, the host laboratories are currently engaged in cutting-edge research involving super-resolution microscopy and optical live-cell biosensors.
