Description: The University of Kentucky invites applications for a full-time faculty position at the Assistant Professor level interested in studying factors or conditions that may enhance susceptibility of the aged brain to neurodegenerative diseases. This key position will link extensive resources and expertise in aging and Alzheimer's disease and related dementias with strong programs in translational neuroscience in place at the University of Kentucky . Translational research programs that focus on defining and modulating risk factors that contribute to later life neurologic and cognitive impairments may fit particularly well into our research team.

 

The position is in the Sanders-Brown Center on Aging, an internationally respected center of excellence where independent basic and clinical scientists work in a collaborative environment. The Center on Aging also includes the University of Kentucky Alzheimer's Disease Center that provides outstanding resources that can support innovative research (e.g. longitudinally followed clinical cohorts, imaging, biomarkers, genetics, biosample specimens, and statistical support). Closely affiliated programs include the Spinal Cord and Brain Injury Research Center, the Kentucky Neuroscience Institute, the Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Spectroscopy Center, and the Center for Clinical and Translational Science. There is strong potential to link multimodal data including neuroimaging, genetics and other data elements, in addition to an exceptionally strong team in place that are eager and collegial potential collaborators.

 

Requirements: Candidates must have a PhD, MD or MD/PhD degree, demonstrating outstanding achievement. Candidates ideally will have an externally funded, independent research program.

Candidates should have a track record of extramural funding and scholarly output commensurate with the level of their appointment.
