Postdoctoral studies in CNS injury / regeneration
We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow to study scar formation, inflammation and regeneration following spinal cord injury.
The lab investigates fibrotic scar formation and its impact on axonal regeneration and functional recovery following different CNS lesions. We discovered a new population of perivascular cells, called type A pericytes, as the source of fibrotic scar tissue following spinal cord injury, see Göritz et al., Science, 2011. Recently, we identified pericyte-derived scar formation as a therapeutic target to achieve axonal regeneration and functional recovery (Dias et al., Cell, 2018). The intended project will investigate different strategies to enhance axonal regeneration and functional recovery following spinal cord injury and/or investigate the mechanisms of fibrotic scarring.
The Göritz laboratory is offering a stimulating, interactive international environment. We are part of the Department of Cell and Molecular Biology at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden, one of the world’s leading medical universities. The lab is located in the recently opened Biomedicum, a state-ofthe-art research building.
We are looking for highly motivated, independent and driven candidates, with at least one first authorship publication in a peer-reviewed scientific journal. The successful applicant will have a strong background in Neuroscience, preferentially with knowledge in the area of CNS injury and repair. A documented ability to independently carry out experimental research projects is required, as are good communication skills in spoken and written English. Experience with transgenic mouse models, spinal cord injury models, imaging techniques, opto-/chemogenetics techniques is of advantage.
