Fernando Gomez-Pinilla
Fernando Gomez-Pinilla, Ph.D., is a Professor in the Departments of Neurosurgery, and Integrative Biology and Physiology, and director of the NeuroLife laboratory at UCLA. He has pioneered research about the molecular mechanisms by which lifestyle factors such as diet and exercise influence brain plasticity and cognitive function. He has made important contribution to understand how the interaction between the brain and periphery can be used to modulate the pathogenesis of brain disorders such as traumatic brain injury. His is currently using integrative approaches involving molecular, genomics, imaging, and behavioral to develop new strategies to cure metabolic and neurological disorders. His studies are funded by the National Institute of Heath. He has about 150 articles published in elite scientific journals, and has been plenary speaker in important events around the world, and his research receives intense international media attention.
