We are seeking a highly motivated recent or pending MD and/or PhD graduate to work in a molecular and cellular neuroscience/stem cell lab for disease modeling using patient derived induced pluripotent stem cells. Our research goals are to further our understanding of the pathophysiology of neurodegenerative diseases and to identify novel pathways and targets for the development of therapy. In particular, we are interested in understanding the mechanisms underlying protein misfolding, extracellular vesicles and propagation of disease in neurodegeneration. We use induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSC) from patients with Alzheimer’s Disease and other types of neurodegenerative diseases as our model system. The post-doctoral fellow will use multi-pronged approach including biochemistry, CRISPR genetic editing, gene expression analysis, proteomics and imaging. UCSD provides an excellent environment for stem cell and neurodegeneration research, with Sanford Consortium for Regenerative Medicine and the Alzheimer's Disease Research Center. The lab is committed in mentoring post-doctoral fellows for a career in academia or industry.
The ideal candidate will have experience in biochemical, molecular and cellular biological techniques in neuroscience or stem cell biology.
