Two NIH-funded postdoctoral positions are available immediately for highly-motivated individuals to study molecular and cellular mechanisms of Alzheimer's disease pathogenesis. We investigate cellular and molecular mechanisms of pathogenesis and disease-associated synaptic abnormalities using neuronal and oligodendrocyte cell cultures, transgenic/knock-in/knock-out mouse models. A major focus of our research is to understand the neuronal targeting mechanisms responsible for polarized sorting of the aspartyl protease BACE1, using advanced microscopy approaches. The second focus of our research is to characterize using conditional KO and transgenic mice, the biological pathways and pathogenic mechanisms regulated by the major late-onset Alzheimer’s disease risk gene, BIN1.

Successful applicants will have the opportunity to work in a dynamic environment and train with experienced molecular, cellular and developmental neuroscientists investigating various aspects of the nervous system function and dysfunction.
Applicants must hold a Ph.D. or MD. Ph.D. in a related field, and a strong background in molecular and cellular biology, neurobiology, or animal models. Only candidates with previous experience in live-cell / super-resolution imaging, neuronal protein trafficking, oligodendrocyte biology, or mouse models of Alzheimer’s disease will be considered for this position. Preference will be given to candidates with interdisciplinary training and strong publication record.
