Full Time - Entry Level
Academic / Research
Postdoctoral position available immediately in the laboratory of Dr. Jeffrey Taskerin the Tulane Brain Institute, Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana, as part of a new 5-year, NIAAA-funded collaboration with Dr. Nicholas Gilpin of the LSU Health Science Center, New Orleans, to study the effect of traumatic stress on the endocannabinoid modulation of inhibitory circuits in the basolateral amygdala. A previous study revealed a stress-induced endocannabinoid suppression of synaptic inhibition in the BLA that contributes to anxiety-like behavior in rats (Di et al., J Neurosci 36:8461, 2016). The current project will look at the endocannabinoid modulation of GABA neurotransmission in a rat model of traumatic stress-induced escalation of alcohol consumption. The person filling this position will be responsible mainly for conducting patch-clamp electrophysiological recordings in acute slices of amygdala from rats trained to consume alcohol and subjected to traumatic stress, but will also work closely with the Gilpin lab to participate in the behavioral and in-vivo physiological aspects of the project.
The successful applicant must have a Ph.D. or equivalent; experience in patch clamp recording in brain slices is preferred. Apply on-line at apply.interfolio.com/46707. Salary is on the NIH postdoctoral fellowship scale, commensurate with experience.
