The Alkermes Research and Discovery organization is seeking a highly talented, motivated and interdisciplinary postdoctoral researcher to join our neurochemistry group to expand the identification and validation of novel therapeutic targets in the diseased brain. Under supervision of a principal investigator, the successful candidate is expected to enhance our group capabilities and methodologies to guide drug discovery projects and biomarker validation while gaining experience in the industry setting. Candidate will also be expected to contribute to the analysis and interpretation of data and present finding at laboratory and department meetings. Individuals with extensive experience in in vivo microdialysis are strongly encouraged to apply.
Explore and develop new models and technologies to better understand neurochemical models of disease biology while driving key programs forward
Design, develop, and implement novel in vivo microdialysis protocols and procedures
Contribute to study reports and peer reviewed publications
Proficiency in in vivo microdialysis (conventional and push-pull methodologies) in task performing animals
Experience in analyzing U/HPLC chromatography and troubleshooting equipment (e.g. Clarity Chromatography Station, Antec Scientific)
Proficiency in rodent (primarily rat) stereotaxic surgery
Excellent rodent handling skills and knowledge of pharmacokinetics, pharmacology, and drug formulation and delivery (systemic and intracerebroventricular administration)
Preference given to candidates with experience in peptide sampling and analysis with U/HPLC and/or LC-MS
Experience in tissue (ex vivo) and histological analysis (e.g. brain tissue dissection, Western blots, ELISA, histological verification of probe placement)
In addition to having excellent intrapersonal skills, candidate must be able to work both independently and within a team environment
Leadership, organizational, multi-tasking, and problem solving skills are required
Strong desire to push the boundaries of the science, implement innovative technologies and approaches, and be flexible to learn and take on new tasks when needed
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Minimum Education and Experience:
Recent Ph.D. in neuroscience, pharmacology or related discipline
2-3 years of industry or academic post-doctoral experience preferred
