A postdoctoral position in translational neuroscience is available in the Departments of Anesthesia and Physiology in the laboratory of Dr. Beverley Orser (www.orserlab.com) at the University of Toronto. Our research focuses on the role of GABA-A receptors in regulating cognition, mood and network plasticity.
The successful candidate will participate in a research program funded by a CIHR Foundation Grant that identifies mechanisms involved in cognitive and mood disorders after general anesthesia and surgery. Members of this program will work closely with the Perioperative Brain Health Centre at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre (www.perioperativebrainhealth.com).
Qualified candidates must have a PhD or MD/PhD in neuroscience, molecular biology, cell biology, or a relevant field. Knowledge and experience of biochemical and molecular biology methods including DNA/RNA/protein isolation and quantification, flow cytometry, Western blotting, immunohistochemistry, qPCR, cloning, and tissue culture is a must. Prior experiences with electrophysiology, optogenetic, and animal behavioral assays are also assets. The candidate must possess a good record of scientific publications, organizational skills, self-motivation and the ability to work well independently as well as in a team environment.
The initial appointment will be for a one-year term, with potential for annual renewal.
