The Department of Biology at the University of Virginia (UVA) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor. We are seeking a colleague whose research complements and expands the Department's existing strength in developmental, molecular and comparative Neuroscience (http://bio.as.virginia.edu/research). We are particularly enthusiastic about candidates whose research addresses fundamental issues in Neuroscience at the circuit, cellular and synaptic levels.
This position is part of the pan-University neuroscience cluster hire initiative. This cross-Grounds initiative builds on momentum of the UVA Brain Institute and will help enable the expanding neuroscience undergraduate major, promote collaborative activity across CLAS, SOM and SEAS, and ensure continuing prominence of neuroscience scholarship, education, and research. The successful candidate will be expected to collaborate with colleagues across Grounds, as well as with the UVA Brain Institute to advance the University's strategic interest in neuroscience, broadly conceived.
The candidate will be expected to establish a vigorous, independent, and externally funded research program, and to contribute to undergraduate and graduate instruction and training. The new faculty member will have access to several training programs, including the Biology Graduate Program, the interdepartmental Neuroscience Graduate Program, the Biomedical Sciences Graduate Program, and the Neuroscience Undergraduate Major, and also become a member of the newly established UVA Brain Institute.
