The Center for Advanced Pediatric Brain Imaging Research has an opening for a postdoctoral fellowship position. The goal of our research program is to study normal development, and the causes and consequences of early life brain injury in the high-risk fetus and preterm infant. The position is an exciting opportunity to be at the forefront of this rapidly developing new field. The NIH-funded research project will investigate the impact of preterm birth on cerebellar structural and microstructural development using serial quantitative MRI studies and neurobehavioral outcomes. Specifically, the project will focus on in vivo mapping of the immature preterm cerebellum including developing computational models and 3-D spatio-temporal atlases using high-resolution anatomical and diffusion tensor MR imaging datasets for cerebellar-cerebral tissue classification, segmentation, and structural connectivity measurements. The candidate will also have the unique opportunity to study in utero fetal brain development versus ex-utero preterm brain development using advanced MRI tools.
Extensive knowledge in software programming using C/C++, MATLAB, and GPU computing is required. Prior experience in medical image processing and in particular MR imaging is essential. Candidates must have a PhD in an engineering discipline, computer science, applied physics/mathematics, or neuroscience. The candidate is expected to have good writing skills, a track record for publications, and experience in working in a multidisciplinary clinical research environment.
The position is funded by the Advanced Pediatric Brain Imaging Center at Children’s National for two years and will start in September 2017.
